Segway Tour

The Segway tour was a brilliant night out, one I think everyone rated very highly on the list of holiday activities. Unfortunately Keith couldn't join on us due the way Segways work and the bike Keith was given as replacement for the Segway didn't work.

We all met at the Segway base camp and signed our lives and human rights away first. We watched a quick promotional video, promoting the use of Segways in cities and the basics of using a Segway.

Along with us were 6-8 mixed nationality tourists. We made our way to The White House just walking with the Segways for now. Once we had enough room we all lined up and the Segway guide started to show us how to step-up onto the Segway, keeping your balance whilst not moving, the art of stopping and going and not forgetting turning left and right. Steve straight away was up and away before anyone else. Most people within 3-5mins had the hang of it. The Segways are surprising easy to use, leaning forward to go and leaning back to stop. They are very quick and stop very suddenly, turning is very easy, your left hand controls left and right.

They have a anti speed mechanism built into the wheels, so if you lean to far forward to pick your speed up the handle bars automatically force you back up. After 20mins of the tour we worked out a way around it by doing a quick sprint and bringing yourself up before the Segway forced you to then back down again for another sprint.

As you can see from the pictures we visited Lincoln Memorial, The White House, Capitol Hill, the Korean War Memorial and many others.

Throughout the tour we all had little accidents, Elliot hadn't noticed a plant pot made out of concrete on the path and caught the back of his Segway and made a little crack on the wheel arch As we had all signed insurance documents Elliot managed to click the arch back into place without the guide noticing, quick thinking that saved $100.

Excellent night and a brilliant tour guide.
